She stole several millions of dollars which she used to live out a good portion of her young life. So several years later, realizing she'd been scammed, she hacked into a back door she left in the program. She was unfortunately naïve and did not patent it or even leave a paper trail.
At age 8, she sent a software program to the Lightning Corporation, which she left with a note asking for an appropriate amount of money for the program.
Her parents grew angry and started to dislike her. So, instead she pretended that she was actually below average.
But, as she grew older she learned of her parents' plan. Even in pre-school she showed signs of massive intelligence. Charlie was raised by unappreciative parents who originally planned to exploit her genius.
